Ginger Root (Zingiber Officinale)

Ginger Root is from the ginger plant that was originally from the Asian continent but its cultivation has spread throughout Africa and the Caribbean. The root is cultivated for culinary and medicinal purposes and dosage amounts vary according to the condition being treated. Ginger Root can be infused as a tea or beverage, added to foods in a powder, crystallized or sliced form; eaten directly in crystallized or whole root form and taken as an oral supplement. It is also used to infuse oils that are commonly applied to the skin for the relief of pain.

Ginger Root is most commonly associated with the treatment of stomach related disturbances, sinus infections and upper respiratory infections. Clinical studies have suggested it is very effective as an anti-emetic for persons suffering nausea from chemotherapy and surgical procedures and it is well tolerated by many.
